practice of the the asanas (poses), many of which mimic animals (lion pose,
cobra, down dog, etc).
We emphasis:
1) body awareness - going slowly with focus, using mindfulness
2) using the breath
for calming and to help with sleep/anxiety.
Currently offered Mondays 3:15-4:15pm at Serenity Now Healing Center in
Centerville. Call or email for exact location

Some of the themes in Yoga classes for kids might include:
1) yin-yang symbol and it's application to life.. Discussion of opposite qualities, and how one is not necessarily "better" than the other. The challenge of finding the balance. Balance between too much effort, and too little effort for example.
2) The value of keeping our focus on one thing at a time. What happens when you try to do too many things at once? Such as doing Triangle pose and having a conversation?
*** Please sign up in advance, as the class will not
be held if there is insufficient numbers.

Photo
of Hiyala at a daycare in Shoreveiw where she has taught French for the past 6
years. Hiyala
Indiga has been teaching kids for more than thirty years.
She teaches French privately and has taught at Montessori schools
as well as secondary schools. She also taught at Concordia College's
French Language Village. She has taught yoga for kids at the
Emma B Howe Ymca near Northtown as well as at Century College's summer
program. From 1975-76, she worked as an aupair (nanny) while attending the American
College in Paris. Her philosophy of teaching language is to speak the
language as much as possible, repeating in English whenever necessary for
comprehension. What can you expect from your child after one
session? They will know some sentences, some songs, lots of
vocabulary. However, if you ask them to "say something in
French", chances are, they will freeze. This asking presents a very
unnatural situation for them - it is out of context. In the classes French and English are
combined , so it is difficult for the beginning student to isolate them.
The greatest value of learning a language at an early age is that the sounds,
the "music" of the language gets into their "sponge" minds
and they will be able to easily build upon that at any point in their
lives.
